Chelsea defender Andreas Christensen has impressed at the back while he was on loan with Borussia Monchengladbach and even last season with the Blues.
The 21-year-old has revealed that he actually started his career as a striker.
Speaking about his first ever club, Birkerod, Christensen told the official Chelsea website: “They were a local club my dad managed. It was almost the same guys all the way up to Under-14, and we did quite well.
“Almost all of my friends were in the same team, and everybody knew each other. I am still close to some of them, and I have very good memories from that time.”
He then revealed that he started out as a striker. He said: “At that time, I was a striker. Only later on did I go first into midfield and then into defence.”
The young Dane moved to Chelsea at age 16, and he has admitted that leaving his family at such a young age wasn’t easy at the time.
He said: “The consequences were a little bit harder: leaving your family, leaving all your friends. At the start I felt a little bit lonely, but as soon as you get to know your team-mates, know your way around town, it makes it a lot easier. I would say the first month or two were the hardest, and from then on it was just normal.”
