Former Premier League player Stan Collymore isn’t convinced Chelsea star Eden Hazard is the best player in Europe.
Hazard has scored five goals in five Premier League games for Chelsea this season with Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri hailing the Belgian as the best player in Europe at the moment. Hazard was unplayable in the 4-1 win over Cardiff City on Wednesday with the Belgian scoring a hat-trick.
Collymore insists he would only put Hazard in the category of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi if he scores 35 goals at the end of the season.
“Maurizio Sarri says Eden Hazard may be the best player in Europe right now, but not for me he isn’t,” Collymore told the Mirror.
“You’re still looking at Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Neymar and Antoine Griezmann – and I don’t think he’s there yet.
“Hazard has started the season well and, if he continues in the same vein, will be looking at a Ronaldo or Messi-esque goal haul of around 35, and I hope he can get there.
“But only then will I start to put him up with those players and not before.”
I believe Hazard will silence his doubters this season and prove to everyone he is as good as Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. The only thing that has separated Hazard from these players has been goals and Hazard’s impressive goalscoring form this season proves he can match the goalscoring feat of Ronaldo and Messi.
Some fans might say it’s too early to say Hazard can score 40 goals in a season but with the style of play under Sarri this season, Hazard will see more of the ball in the opponents half which means more goalscoring chances.
Hazard is playing with a smile on his face this season, something we didn’t see last season under Antonio Conte and it’s obvious he enjoys playing under Sarri.
Hazard has scored five league goals already this season, which is more than Messi’s four league goals and Ronaldo’s two league goals. Who says he can’t be better than Messi and Ronaldo?
