Defending champions Manchester City and Liverpool are the favourites to win the league, and many believe Chelsea don’t have either a strong defence or a competent striker to win the league.
City broke the Premier League record on their way to win the league last season with a record 100 points, while Chelsea were in a distant fifth position. Liverpool are also being strongly tipped to win the title and are currently top of the table, with six straight wins.
However, Manchester United legend Ryan Giggs insists that Chelsea shouldn’t be discounted in the title race.
“It looks like a case of Manchester City v Liverpool for the title, although you can’t dismiss Chelsea because they’re playing well,” Giggs told Sky Sports.
“Remember just two years ago they were the champions and they’ve got players in that dressing room who know what it takes – Liverpool haven’t got that, but you’ve got to start somewhere and Liverpool have been impressive.
“As for Man City, I watched them against Lyon and you think something might be wrong and then they go and put on a show against Cardiff.
“So I’d say it was between those two but you can’t discount Chelsea.
“I’d still just give Manchester City the edge purely because Pep Guardiola usually wins second season after winning the league and they’ve got players who’ve been there and done it.”
Chelsea have showed promise in the title race and have won five games out of six. The Blues were having a perfect season until last weekend’s draw against West Ham. Maurizio Sarri has set his team playing great, and Sarri-ball has shown a lot of promise.
