Former Manchester United midfielder Owen Hargreaves has revealed he is surprised Chelsea’s Brazilian star Willian doesn’t play more for the Blues.
The 30-year-old wasn’t always a favourite for Chelsea under Antonio Conte last season but he seems to have won the trust of Maurizio Sarri.
Willian has started three of Chelsea’s five Premier League games this season, scoring just once, a beauty in the 4-1 win over Cardiff City after coming in as a substitute.
Hargreaves also insisted everytime he watches Willian play, he looks like one of Chelsea’s best players.
Hargreaves told BT Sport: “He’s a beautiful football player, he really is.
“He’s not really a winger and he’s not really a No 10.
“He’s such a smart player, technically so good, touch, everything about him.
“He’s a great finisher, great passer. It’s amazing he doesn’t actually play more.
“Every time you watch him play, he looks like he’s one of Chelsea’s best players.”
Former Chelsea manager Glenn Hoddle also revealed it’s strange to always find Willian proving himself to the manager despite his abilities.
“His finishing is actually guiding it into corners, he doesn’t try to hit it too hard,” Hoddle told BT Sport.
“It’s all technique and he sets the ball up beautifully. He’s got pace, he works hard for the team.
“He’s always having to prove to the manager to stay in the side, it’s a strange one.”
Willian scored the only goal of the game after seven minutes as Chelsea beat PAOK in Greece on Thursday.
