It’s not every time you see a player playing for one football club for most of his career, but that also doesn’t mean it is unheard of.

Players like Gianluigi Buffon and Paolo Maldini played almost the entirety of their careers at Juventus and AC Milan, respectively, and in England, we have seen it with the likes of John Terry and Frank Lampard, who joined Chelsea from very tender ages, and played for us until their 30s. In Spain, Lionel Messi is surely on course to do the same with Barcelona.

So it’s not exactly unusual, even though most players would rather move for more money or the thrill of a new challenge. There are also those who of course, who move because their club considers them surplus to requirements. Our Eden Hazard doesn’t belong in the latter category, fortunately.

Hazard is a player of great exception. He has been phenomenal since 2012, and in fact, seems to be getting better by the day. He too has suffered a dip in form at times, but that isn’t something you hear often. He always brings his best to Chelsea, and that is why I feel he deserves to be treated like a gem that he truly is.

On Saturday, against Cardiff City, he proved again why he deserves whatever contract he is asking from Chelsea. I am not in the know as to what the discussions have been as regards his future at Chelsea, but I believe that whatever it is, the club and Roman must do it to show the man some appreciation and love for the manner he has carried and delivered for us since 2012.

I know there have been reports that he’d leave to another football club in the past, but I doubt he ever meant to. Every time those rumours came up, there was a problem at Chelsea. If it wasn’t because he wasn’t enjoying freedom to play or there wasn’t joy in the dressing room.

Maurizio Sarri has definitely brought life back to Chelsea and Hazard is loving it, and if there ever was a good time to get him to commit, it has to be now.

It doesn’t matter how the club does it, the fans just deserve to keep watching the gem called Hazard. He may not have won the ‘best player’ award, but he’s without a doubt one of the very best, and can compete with those who have won awards any time, any day.

King Jay is a writer/broadcaster with years of experience under his belt. His love affair with Chelsea actually began as a joke, but today, he stands tall as a die-hard blue. What makes him perfect for this blog? He lives for Chelsea FC, in fact, I heard he sat in the middle of a road, and refused to go home after that bitter loss to Barcelona in 2009. Haha.
