Eden Hazard sent Chelsea through to the fourth round of the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night by scoring a brilliant solo effort to help Chelsea beat Liverpool 2-1 at Anfield.
Before the game at Anfield, Chelsea assistant manager and legend Gianfranco Zola hailed Hazard as one of the best in the game and Hazard showed why Zola showered him with praise.
With five minutes left to play and the game level at 1-1 after Emerson Palmieri had cancelled out Daniel Sturridge’s opener, Hazard received the ball close to the centre circle and went on a mazy run. He beat Fabinho, Firmino, Keita and Moreno before unleashing an unstoppable shot.
When asked where his goal against Liverpool ranks in his all-time best, Hazard said: “I don’t know if it’s in my top five goals but it’s up there because it’s against Liverpool.”
“The goal was special and so was the qualification. It’s always tough to play here. That’s why the win is more important.”
Zola was impressed with Hazard’s cameo performance against Liverpool on Wednesday night and once again hailed Hazard as one of the best in the world.
“Eden is one of the best players in Europe and the world for sure,” Zola said.
“What he has done today with that goal is proof of that. He is getting better and better he is doing the right things at the right moment.”
Chelsea and Liverpool square up again in the Premier League on Saturday.
