Chelsea striker Alvaro Morata has found it hard to make an impact in the Premier League despite having started his Chelsea career in blistering form.
The Spaniard joined the Blues last summer for a then club record fee of over £50m, and after scoring 7 goals in his first 7 games, the goals began to dry up, and he struggled to find the net till the end of the season.
Morata has scored a goal in four games this season, and was dropped for Chelsea’s last game against Cardiff City, with Olivier Giroud having a good game in place of him.
Chelsea defender David Luiz has revealed that he usually offers encouragement for Morata and even Giroud when they fail to score.
The Brazilian is hoping Morata will do well in the Europa League as Chelsea resume Europa League football today against PAOK.
“It is a good competition for Alvaro to make an impact, like it will be for everybody,” Luiz told Standard Sport.
“Forwards live for goals. Playing in the Europa League obviously means more games for us and, therefore, more opportunities for him [Morata] and Giroud to score.
“I’m going to be happy for both Alvaro and Olivier if they find the back of the net. Sometimes they are frustrated if they don’t score, but I tell them, ‘Keep calm, you played a great game’.
“But it’s good for a striker to have this feeling when they’re not scoring. They have to think this way.”
