Alvaro Morata is going to face a battle with Olivier Giroud for the number one striking role in Chelsea, with Giroud currently ahead of the Spaniard in the pecking order.
Morata started the first four games for Chelsea this season and had only a goal to show for it, and most times he goes missing during games. Maurizio Sarri eventually benched him for Chelsea’s 4-1 win against Cardiff City, and the Spaniard was again dropped for the visit to West Ham on Sunday.
Morata who started his Chelsea career with a bang, scoring seven goals in his first seven appearances, struggled last season after being bought for a record fee, as he could only find the net 15 times in all competitions last season.
Blues legend Ron Harris believes Giroud is a better fit to play alongside Eden Hazard and said that Morata tends to miss unbelievable chances.
He told Love Sport Radio: “[Giroud] seems to link up better with Eden Hazard.
“The other lad Morata is desperate for goals. He’s had some good opportunities and missed them, and when sometimes when the luck is going with you, you can mishit a shot and it goes in.
“This fella seems to miss some unbelievable chances and I just feel he’s lacking in a bit of confidence at the moment. The one that seems to be thriving with Eden Hazard is Giroud.”
