Chelsea midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek has featured for a total of just 33 minutes for Chelsea this season across two substitute appearances.
Loftus-Cheek didn’t make the bench for the 4-1 win over Cardiff City on Saturday due to injury but he was part of the travelling squad to Greece on Wednesday.
Ahead of Chelsea’s Europa League opener against PAOK on Thursday, Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri has refused to offer any guarantees that Loftus-Cheek will start even though he is expected to make at least five changes to the team that beat Cardiff City on Saturday.
However, Sarri hinted Loftus-Cheek will have a chance to play against Liverpool on Wednesday in the Carabao Cup if he fails to play against PAOK on Thursday.
When asked if he will start against PAOK, Sarri said: “I don’t know about Loftus-Cheek.
“For me, he is a very good player. I don’t know if there is a spot tomorrow. There is in the future.
“Now it is very difficult, because in the first part of the season it is very important to play with a very solid team. I might change four or five players, it is impossible to change every player in the match.
“I don’t know [if Loftus-Cheek is growing frustrated]. Unfortunately, you have to play with 11 players, 17 players tomorrow [Thursday] won’t agree with me.
“There is a match Thursday and on Wednesday after Sunday at West Ham. There will be a chance for everyone, but not for 25 or 28 players – the truth is this.”
