Eden Hazard stole the show at Anfield as he scored a wonder goal in the 2-1 victory over Liverpool to seal Chelsea’s passage into the fourth round of the Carabao Cup.
After Emerson had cancelled out Daniel Sturridge’s effort with ten minutes remaining of normal time, the match looked like it was heading for a penalty shootout before Hazard (who came on as a substitute) popped up with a solo wonder goal. Hazard jinked round several Liverpool defenders and drilled the ball past a hapless Simon Mignolet to score the winner for the Blues.
After Hazard’s hat-trick performance against Cardiff over a week ago, Blues boss Maurizio Sarri hailed the Belgian as the best in the world, and now his assistant Gianfranco Zola has reiterated what Sarri said.
Zola told Sky Sports: “It’s a fantastic goal. Not only the beauty of it but for the time he scored it.
“Not only is he one of the best in the Premier League – if not the best – but he is one of the best in Europe and the world.
“In my opinion we haven’t seen the best of him yet. He’s remarkable.
“It’s a big win but to be fair it was a close game. Liverpool could have won. It’s fair to say they are a brilliant team.”
