Chelsea’s near perfect start to the new season under the watchful eyes of Maurizio Sarri continued last night with a 1-0 win over Hungarian side, Vidi at Stamford Bridge courtesy of Alvaro Morata’s goal. Despite the win, Chelsea’s real big issues that could derail our season were badly exposed.
Here are the 2 big issues that could derail our season:
LACK OF STRIKERS’ GOAL THREAT:
Chelsea have always had mixed success with regards to buying strikers. The great strikers from the days of Andre Flo, Didier Drogba, Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink and Diego Costa were proven successes. But the likes of Matej Kezman, Andriy Shevchenko, Pato, Falcao and most notably Fernanado Torres all flattered to deceive. The current duo of Alvaro Morata and Olivier Giroud are struggling to deliver the goals Chelsea need to stay in contention in all competitions. Sarri needs to find a way out of this or risks seeing his good work at Chelsea just become a flash in the pan.
LACK OF THE KILLER INSTINCT:
Chelsea’s nine games so far this season reads: 7 wins, 2 draws and 0 defeats. Quite an interesting and impressive stat, but in some games this season, Chelsea survived by the hair’s breadth partly down to the profligacy of our opponents’ who failed to punish us. While it will be good to say that we have improved our style of play which has seen us take the game to our opponents’ and boss play, but our real issue has been in killing teams. We have failed to make the most of our chances and that could just be our greatest undoing in competitions that might have to be settled by goal differences.
Let’s hope for the best. Cheers!
