According to Italian media outlet Calciomercato, Chelsea sent scouts to watch AC Milan defender Alessio Romagnoli during the Milan derby against Inter Milan last weekend.
This isn’t the first time that Chelsea have targeted the Milan captain.
In 2016, AC Milan confirmed they received a significant offer for the 23-year-old which was reported to be in the region of 40 milllion Euros but the offer was turned down with Milan claiming the defender wasn’t for sale.
Romagnoli is well-suited for Sarri-ball as he is very comfortable with the ball at his feet, not afraid to move forward into space and has an eye for an attacking pass.
The 23-year-old defender is believed to be open to a move to the Premier League and he has also been linked with Premier League rivals Manchester United in the past.
Chelsea will need to spend big to land the defender as he is under contract at AC Milan until 2022 after signing a new contract in June. AC Milan will be reluctant to sell a first-team regular who is under a long-term contract at the club.
Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri has preferred Antonio Rudiger and David Luiz as his first-choice defensive pairing ahead of Andreas Christensen and Gary Cahill.
