Chelsea were linked with a move for Gonzalo Higuain during the summer transfer window, but a move never materialised.
The Blues were strongly linked with the Argentine after Maurizio Sarri wanted to bring him to Stamford Bridge. Higuain played under Sarri at Napoli, and they formed a good partnership with Higuain scoring goals and setting records in the process.
While Sarri wanted Higauin at Chelsea, the Chelsea board weren’t too keen on the 30-year-old who also had a hefty price tag, and he ended up signing for AC Milan.
Higuain has now admitted that only Sarri really wanted him at Chelsea and that was the reason he never moved to the Bridge.
“Sarri was the only one to want me at Chelsea,” Higuain said. “Everybody wanted me at AC Milan, while in London I was only wanted by the manager.
“AC Milan insisted to sign me, Elliott did a big effort for me and Leonardo, Maldini and Gattuso know the club very well. I really appreciated their approach during the negotiation.”
Higuain has banged in six goals in seven games, a figure that both Chelsea strikers Olivier Giroud and Alvaro Morata can’t boast of combined.
Morata has scored two goals in his last two games, and the Spaniard who struggled last season has admitted that he has learnt from his mistakes.
“I’ve learned many things from last season. It was very difficult for me,” Morata said.
“I left home to play the World Cup and I wasn’t included in the squad anyway.
“Now that my two sons are born I can control my emotions a bit better, both the positive and negative ones. I am happy when I am outside the pitch.
“I’d like to be happier when I play. I need to score more goals in order to be happier. I was really sad a few months ago.
“I wasn’t depressed but I didn’t live my situation very well. People used to love me, I scored seven goals in the first seven games at Chelsea.
“Then I got injured and I was playing even if I was feeling pain. There was lot of tension and I didn’t want to speak to anybody.
“One day my wife told me that I wasn’t handling the situation in the right way. I was angry because I thought she was against me too.”
