ESPN pundit and Liverpool legend Steve Nicol believes Chelsea striker Alvaro Morata will inevitably leave Stamford Bridge after suffering from a severe lack of confidence.
The 25-year-old striker has lost his place in the team to Olivier Giroud after finding the net just three times in his 20 Premier League appearances in 2018.
Despite scoring in his last two appearances for Chelsea, Nicol believes Giroud will continue to start ahead of Morata. Nicol doesn’t believe Morata has a future in Chelsea.
“It seems inevitable (that Morata will leave),” Nicol told ESPN.
“If Chelsea want to compete for the Premier League or Champions League or anything else, then they have to get a centre-forward.
“Morata, I’ve never seen him so low in confidence as he is right now.
“It seems unlikely that it’s going to change.
“I don’t think he’s going to play, I think Giroud will start ahead of him.
“So it’s inevitable I think at the end of the day this guy will leave.”
Chelsea are second in the Premier League table with twenty points after eight games, level on points with first-placed Manchester City and third-placed Liverpool.
The Blues will face Manchester United at Stamford Bridge later this month.
