Chelsea midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek scored a hat-trick to help Chelsea secure a comfortable 3-1 victory over BATE Borisov at Stamford Bridge on Thursday night.

The 22-year-old put in an impressive performance much to the delight of the Chelsea fans, and it could just have been his best ever game so far in his career.

The Chelsea academy product has found game time hard to get for the Blues and despite a successful loan spell with Crystal Palace last season, he has been unable to break into the Maurizio Sarri’s side.

Loftus-Cheek will be asking questions after proving himself on Thursday night, and former Manchester United midfielder Owen Hargreaves thinks the young midfielder is a special player.

Hargreaves said: “I know he’s been on people’s lips for a very long time but this is the best I’ve seen him play.

“This is the most important moment of his career, now he has shown everyone what he’s capable of.

“Now, he needs to show he can do it again, he needs to show that he can become a feature. And if he can’t do it at Chelsea, he needs to go on a two-year loan.

“I know it’s against BATE Borisov and they’re not the best, but I think if he can do this, if he can add goals to his game, and take up a position in the side, I think he’s got all the talent in the world.

“He looks like a really special player.”

Sarri might have had his reservation about Loftus-Cheek in the past, but the Chelsea manager admitted that Loftus-Cheek suits his style of play.

“He played very, very well,” Sarri said of Loftus-Cheek. “In the offensive phase wonderful.

“I told him at the beginning of the season I thought he was really a very good player. Now I think the same, but now he’s now more suitable to my football.

“He’s improving. He needs to improve in the defensive phase, but it’s not only Loftus.

“At the moment we have four midfielders for two positions, three of them with the same characteristics. Only Kante is a defensive midfielder.

“It’s very difficult for me to put in the starting XI two so offensive midfielders at the same time. I hope to be able to do it in the future. I need the cooperation of the players of course. I need an improvement in the defensive phase.”
