Maurizio Sarri signed Jorginho from Napoli as he left the Naples club to join Chelsea during the summer.
It wasn’t just Jorginho that Sarri wanted to bring with him from Napoli to Chelsea, and it was expected Elseid Hysaj will move to London with him after years of working together at two different clubs.
However, Hysaj’s move to Stamford Bridge never materialised, and Hysaj’s agent Mario Giuffredi has revealed that Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis was the reason the move didn’t go through.
Giuffredi also revealed that Hysaj was keen to join Chelsea during the summer, but De Laurentiis didn’t want to lose another player to Chelsea after the departure of Jorginho.
Speaking to Radio Kiss Kiss Napoli, Giuffredi said: “Those who criticise him probably never make mistakes, but the rest of us are mere mortals.
“Without that clause he probably would have gone to Chelsea this summer.
“People forget that he was one of the best two or three full-backs in Europe last season. Then it just takes two or three matches for him to become a donkey.
“I always say to let everyone talk and then respond on the pitch.”
Sarri had to make do with the defence he met at Chelsea without strengthening Chelsea’s backline, and David Luiz and Antonio Rudiger has so far formed a formidable partnership.
