Should Chelsea decide to send out midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek on loan in January, Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson has declared he would make a move for the midfielder.
Loftus-Cheek impressed during his time on loan at Crystal Palace last season and earned a spot in England World Cup squad in the summer.
Many expected the midfielder to get more playing time at Chelsea this season following his performances for Crystal Palace last season but the likes of N’Golo Kante, Jorginho, Mateo Kovacic, Ross Barkley and Cesc Fabregas seem to be ahead of him in Chelsea’s midfield under Maurizio Sarri.
Loftus-Cheek made his first start of the season in Chelsea’s 1-0 Europa League win over Vidi on Thursday but only after he was left out of Gareth Southgate’s latest England squad.
It’s been suggested Loftus-Cheek will push to leave Chelsea on loan in January if he fails to get enough playing time and Hodgson insists he will make a move for the midfielder if he becomes available.
“Ruben Loftus-Cheek did an outstanding job for us when he came here,” Hodgson said of Loftus-Cheek.
“He really answered all the questions that we hoped he would answer, and luckily for us and even more for him, it got him recognised by the national team. He found himself in Russia representing England, which was a perfect end to the season had had for us.
“We admire him, we like him very much and we wish him well, and of course like a lot of other clubs I’m sure, when the day comes when he becomes available for transfer, we will be sticking our noses into that. But whether we will get him again, that’s another matter. Who knows, we will see.”
