Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney has admitted Chelsea legend John Terry was his toughest opponent following Terry’s retirement from football.
37-year-old Terry announced his retirement from football on Sunday, having won five Premier league titles, five FA Cups, three League Cups, a Champions League and a Europa League.
Rooney played against several top defenders in the Premier League and Champions League but the 32-year-old striker, who currently plays for DC United in the MLS, admits Terry is his toughest opponent.
Rooney wrote on Twitter: “My toughest opponent. Congratulations to John Terry on a brilliant career,” followed by three clapping hands emojis.
Rooney and Terry were rivals in the Premier League for 15 years, but spent nine years as team-mates for England.
