It’s another weekend of Premier League Football as Chelsea look to maintain their unbeaten start to the season against Mark Hughes’ Southampton side at the St. Mary’s Stadium. It promises to be a thrilling, exciting and interesting game.
Here are the subplots of the game:
WILL SOUTHAMPTON GIVE CHELSEA A DIFFICULT TIME OR WILL CHELSEA MARCH ON AGAINST THE SAINTS?
The match at the South Coast will surely be a testing game for both sides as they both look to make progress in this new league campaign. Chelsea’s good start will surely be tested against an average-looking Southampton side looking to make rare views after slipping under the radar last season after the grubble of another managerial change that ushered Mark Hughes’ reign. Meanwhile, Maurizio Sarri’s transformation at Stamford Bridge is already silencing the doubters and making the Blues look like title contenders each passing week. Whether the Saints can quell Chelsea’s firepower is a big question that can only be answered on the field of play. Let’s watch out!
THE BATTLE OF DIFFERENCE MAKERS: WILL IT BE DANNY INGGS OR EDEN HAZARD WHO STEALS THE SHOW?
The two sides have an array of superstars in their own right who can change the outcome of a football match. But the two names at the moment who have topped the list for their respective clubs are Southampton’s Danny Ings and Chelsea’s Eden Hazard. The Saints striker has scored 5 goals already this season in all competitions and has effectively led from the front for Mark Hughes’ side. His ability to finish off his chances and really pose a problem to opposition teams will be key and will also be needed if Southampton are to get anything from this game against Chelsea. Will Ings deliver the goals that will cause an upset?
On the other hand, 7 goals already by Eden Hazard is already having the Belgian being touted as a potential Player of the Season and lauded as the best player in Europe. Will he be able to keep the Saints grounded in this game?
TACTICAL BATTLE: MARK HUGHES VS MAURIZIO SARRI
Mark Hughes’ time at Southampton so far has been testing with having had to save the Saints from relegation to steadying the ship and ensuring they make real progress now. I’m sure he will still be smacking from the Saints 3-2 defeat against Chelsea last season, with his team squandering a 2-0 lead in the game. Will he get his tactics right this time around that will help them usurp the West Londoners?
Last week’s passed tests against Liverpool will surely have given Maurizio Sarri and his Chelsea side the belief that they can challenge for top honours this season. Sarri will surely be cooking up another tactical blueprint that will see Chelsea win against the Saints. What that will be is yet unknown, but will come to fore during the game. Let’s keep our eyes on this!
Let’s hope for the best. Cheers!
