Even though Cesar Azpilicueta has captained Chelsea so far this season, Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri is yet to name a permanent captain until he has taken a longer look at the squad.
Sarri recently admitted he wanted to speak with the club first before making public his choice of Chelsea captain.
“I want to speak with my club face to face before I tell you my decision. I think it’s right the club knows my decision before the journalists,” said Sarri.
“It has been impossible in the last two or three weeks, but I think it will be possible next week.”
According to a report on The Telegraph via Metro UK, Chelsea defender Cesar Azpilicueta is hoping to be named Chelsea’s permanent captain this week ahead of Eden Hazard, who is also being considered for the role.
The report also claims Azpilicueta will respect Sarri’s decision if the armband is given to Hazard, who has started the season in fine form by scoring six goals in seven league games.
Chelsea have started the season brilliantly and the Blues remain unbeaten this season.
