Chelsea signed Mateo Kovacic on loan from Real Madrid during the summer, and the 24-year-old has made a huge impact in Maurizio Sarri’s team.
Jorginho and Kovacic are the two tangible signings made under Sarri, and Kovacic has played a huge role in Chelsea’s dominant start to the season.
Chelsea are yet to lose a game in all competitions this season, and Kovacic has featured in 15 of those games and have only missed out on two occasions.
The big question still surrounds Kovacic’s future as Chelsea don’t have the option of triggering his signing at the end of the season. So the Croatian will return to his parent club Real Madrid at the end of this campaign.
Despite the talk about his future, Kovacic insists he is focusing on performing and that he’s just happy to be playing football regularly.
“I wanted to be happy and at Chelsea I am,” he told Marca.
“I just wanted to be happy and play matches, feel a responsibility within the team and I’ve found that at Chelsea.
“This is not the time to talk about anything other than playing and enjoying. I don’t want to think about what will happen and do want to be happy doing what I like, which is to play football every week.”
There is no option-to-buy clause in Kovacic’s loan deal and Real Madrid will expect the 24-year-old midfielder to return to Spain at the end of the season. With his current form, the Spanish giants might only be willing to sell at a high fee.
