Chelsea youngster Callum Hudson-Odoi is stalling on signing a new Chelsea contract with his current contract expiring in 18 months.

The 18-year-old is stalling on signing a contract extension due to a lack of first-team opportunities at Chelsea.

After a brilliant preseason with Chelsea, many had expected the youngster to play more for Chelsea this season but that has failed to happen.

Hudson-Odoi started the Community Shield defeat by Manchester City but has not made the 18-man squad for any of Chelsea’s Premier League games.

He has just two appearances for Chelsea this season totalling 35 minutes and both appearances as a substitute in Europa League matches against BATE Borisov.

According to Daily Mail, Bayern Munich are leading the race to sign the 18-year-old forward with Barcelona, Juventus and Arsenal also interested in the Under-17 World Cup winner.

Hudson-Odoi has watched fellow English youngster Jadon Sancho flourish since swapping the Premier League for Germany and Daily Mail claim Hudon-Odoi is now tempted to follow in Sancho’s footsteps.

Bayern Munich are hoping to seal a deal for Hudon-Odoi in January as they see him as a long-term successor to wing duo Franck Ribery and Arjen Robben.

On Wednesday, Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri explained why Hudson-Odoi has failed to make a Premier League appearance for Chelsea this season.

“He has to improve a lot. First of all in the defensive phase,” Sarri said.

“He has to work and he is very good in the one on one, but he has to move without the ball.

“The potential he is a very good player, but he has to work. But this is normal. He is 18. I want to find space for him. It is not easy because we have 28 players.

“For me it is not easy to put him in the starting XI. Maybe on the bench in the PL there was Moses or Pedro so it is difficult to not put them on the bench.

“I will try to find the space for him.

“He is in the 18 players for the match tomorrow, but I don’t know if he will start.”
