Chelsea are interested in signing highly rated Lyon midfielder Houssem Aouar, according to Daily Mail.
The 20-year-old midfielder is also wanted by Premier league rivals Arsenal and Spanish club Barcelona.
With Willian and Pedro having both passed the age of 30, Chelsea are looking to sign a young attacking midfielder and see Aouar as the right signing.
The 20-year-old midfielder has been involved in nine goals in his last eleven games for Lyon. Chelsea’s interest in the midfielder could also mean the Mateo Kovacic would return to Real Madrid at the end of the season.
Arsenal reportedly want the 20-year-old to replace Aaron Ramsey, who is set to leave the Emirates when his contract expires at the end of the season.
Aouar, who is equally proficient in the No 10 or No 8, turned down Liverpool before signing his first professional contract with Lyon.
Aouar broke into the Lyon team two seasons ago and has drawn comparisons with Barcelona’s Philippe Coutinho.
The 20-year-old is a high-energy midfielder who is also excellent on the ball.
With Mason Mount excelling on loan at Derby County and the Blues also boasting of young midfielders like Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Ross Barkley, do the Blues really need to sign Aouar?
