Chelsea currently have 39 players out on loan and that number is set to take a big hit with FIFA reportedly set to introduce new guidelines for player transfers.

According to Daily Mail, FIFA are reportedly set to introduce a limit on the number of players who can be loaned out in new rules which could force Chelsea into a dramatic overhaul of our squad.

The new rules will be introduced in the 2020/21 season and the limit of players to be sent out on loan by a single club is likely to be between six and eight.

There will also be a limit on the number of loan deals between clubs, with a maximum of two deals per season between any two teams.

Chelsea had 40 players out on loan until last week when goalkeeper Jamal Blackman returned from Leeds due to injury.

Chelsea currently have three players on loan at Vitesse Arnhem and deals like this won’t happen when the new rule of a maximum of two loan deals between any two teams is introduced.

In a presentation sent to clubs in September, FIFA stated an aim to make ‘loans of players for the purpose of youth development as opposed to commercial exploitation’.
