Mateo Kovacic is a doubt for Chelsea’s next game against Tottenham after missing the England Nations League game.
The Croatia international failed to feature for Croatia during the international break, and played no part in their 3-2 UEFA Nations League win over Spain last week, and he was then ruled out of Sunday’s 2-1 defeat to England at Wembley.
Kovacic was asked in the mixed zone after the game in west London by ESPN journalist Liam Twoney how his injury was.
Kovacic who has a ‘small muscular’ problem, is said to have replied: “Good. Better.”
The 24-year-old is fighting a fitness battle ahead of Chelsea’s trip to Tottenham after training on Wednesday. The midfielder trained on Wednesday after picking up an injury concern while on international duty with Croatia.
Kovacic trained for the first time on Wednesday, and there’s now hope that he can be fit in time to face Spurs.
Kovacic has been a key player for Maurizio Sarri this season, and the Chelsea boss will be hoping that the Croatia international will be fit for this game.
Chelsea last played out a goalless draw with Everton before the international break, and with the Blues just a point behind Spurs, the Chelsea faithful will be hoping for nothing less than a win.
