Chelsea are through to the quarterfinals of the Carabao Cup, and the Blues had to suffer to get the win against Frank Lampard’s side.
The Rams have greatly improved under Lampard’s management, and they even defeated Manchester United to get to the fourth round of the competition.
Chelsea were the favourites to win the game, but Lampard’s side made it very difficult for Chelsea, and the Blues had to scrap out a 3-2 victory.
Frank Lampard spent 13 years at Chelsea, and some of his teammates are still at the club, and the Chelsea legend has revealed that the Chelsea players were surprised about the quality of Derby County’s performance.
“We really contributed to the night, this is a fantastic Chelsea team and we competed,” the Blues legend told Sky Sports.
“Of course they are going to control the game and maybe have more of the ball. But we gifted them two goals and wasted a lot of chances.
“The pride of the evening overshadows [those mistakes]. I think we deserved a draw but I’m not upset at all. It makes me happy.
“Talking to the Chelsea players and some of their staff after the game, they were all praising us and saying how good we were.
“I’m so proud of my Derby County players.”
