Belgium boss Roberto Martinez has hailed Chelsea star Eden Hazard as a good leader, with the Belgian currently the captain of the Belgium national team.
Hazard captained Belgium to a third place position in the World Cup during the summer, and he has been in form ever since. Martinez has now admitted that Hazard is a good leader both on the pitch and off it.
“He’s been a very good leader,” he told a news conference.
“There are many different types of leaders but I think what Eden Hazard brings is someone you can get influenced by and who is an incredible source for younger players and who has been someone who can never, ever get affected by the pressure of the game or the pressure of the situation.
“And he enjoys his football and is always decisive for his play and a role model for all of us.”
Former Chelsea midfielder Michael Ballack wants Maurizio Sarri to give Hazard even more responsibility so he can have more impact on the team.
“It is a good example when you see the best players and superstars in the team are happy,” Ballack told Goal. “How they perform is a good sign that something is right in the team.
“That the relationship is good, that the atmosphere is good. I always said he is an incredible player.
“From my perspective, he should have even more responsibility and even more impact on the team. Not just to enjoy the individual freedom which he likes.
“Players sometimes don’t want to have this heavy weight on their shoulders to carry the team or to get asked in certain situations to have that responsibility.
“I think he is the player who should do that in that team. If you understand how important it is for yourself and for your game and you can handle it, then it will transfer to the team and you will take the next step.”
