Chelsea are through to the quarterfinals of the Carabao Cup, but it was a difficult game for Maurizio Sarri’s side, as Frank Lampard-led Derby County gave Chelsea tough time at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea eventually won the game 3-2.
See how the players fared in the game
Caballero: Should have done better for the opening Derby goal scored by Jack Marriott. Looked unstable at times during the game but produced some good saves towards the end of the match to save the day for Chelsea. 6/10
Cahill: Made a costly mistake with a poor pass to Cesc Fabregas that led to the opening goal for Derby County and his partnership with Christensen wasn’t solid at all. Had a better second half. 5/10
Christensen: Wasn’t too solid at the back and was eventually taken off after 65 minutes for David Luiz as Derby continued to mount pressure. 5/10
Palmieri: Went forward a lot but lacked the end product to hurt Derby, and struggled at the back. 4/10
Zappacosta: Played an important part in all three goals scored by Chelsea and whipped in a number of good crosses for Chelsea, but he wasn’t solid in defence. 7/10
Fabregas: Didn’t do well enough to replace Jorginho in the base of Chelsea midfield, and his mistake led to Derby’s opening goal. Scored the third goal that sealed the win for Chelsea. 6/10
Kovacic: Seemed to have worked hard, but the game flew by him, and his impact wasn’t really felt. 5/10
Loftus-Cheek: Was probably Chelsea’s best player in the first half and made some good forward runs. Was taken off for Pedro in the second half. 6/10
Willian: Was lively at some point in the game but faded off afterwards. 6/10
Morata: Missed a couple of decent headers and although he had one or two good link-up plays, his general performance was below par. 4/10
Luiz: Replaced Christensen with a little over 20 minutes left and brought in his experience to the Chelsea defence. 6/10
Pedro: Replaced Loftus-Cheek with about 20 minutes left but didn’t really impact the game. 5/10
Azpilicueta: Brought some stability to the defence after coming on in the 78th minute.
