Chelsea are through to the quarterfinals of the Carabao Cup, but it was a difficult game for Maurizio Sarri’s side, as Frank Lampard’s Derby County gave Chelsea tough time at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea eventually won the game 3-2, but it was a very difficult game for Chelsea and Maurizio Sarri.
Zola who managed Chelsea’s pre-match press conference ahead of the game also handled the media after the game.
Zola admitted that he wasn’t happy with the team’s performance against the Rams and suggested that there’s need for improvement.
When asked if Chelsea’s performance was shaky, Zola said: “More than a little bit, to be honest. Especially towards the end. A lot is down to them. They really played well and surprised us, played with a lot of quality. A lot was down to us.
“The passing wasn’t as sharp as it normally is, and in the last 10-15 minutes we lost control. The distances were too far apart, and when you give space to the players Derby have got, it becomes difficult. We need to improve, it was positive in some ways, but others didn’t work properly tonight.”
Sarri will definitely agree with Zola as the Chelsea manager looked unhappy all through the game and spent almost the entire time on the sideline looking worried and dishing out instructions.
In the end Chelsea are through to the quarterfinals of the Carabao Cup and will have a home match against Bournemouth to come.
