Chelsea defender David Luiz has come under fire after his dismal display in Chelsea’s loss at Tottenham on Saturday.
Luiz was directly involved in all of Tottenham’s goals: needlessly giving away a soft free-kick which Tottenham subsequently opened the scoring from before moving out of the way of Harry Kane’s strike and allowing Son Heung-Min to cut inside to score Tottenham’s third.
Luiz has started all of Chelsea’s 13 Premier League games this season, and an instagram page Oddsbible has claimed that the Brazilian has been at fault for ‘a staggering 63%’ of all the goals Chelsea have conceded this term.
The post also suggested that Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri should get a new centre-back and drop Luiz, and the Chelsea defender has now reacted to his critics.
Luiz replied: “And the 28 points we had won?? Leaders always take the responsibility, no problem!!!”
Despite Luiz’s mistakes against Spurs, Sarri still defended the Brazilian centre-back.
“I don’t know, maybe the goalkeeper didn’t see the ball,” Sarri said following the defeat.
“I think that David was afraid to touch the ball and change the direction of the ball. ‘But we were passive in all the match, and so it was only a question of minutes.”
