Ahead of Chelsea’s Premier League clash against Manchester City at Stamford Bridge this weekend, Chelsea left back Marcos Alonso has urged Chelsea to forget about the growing gap to Manchester City.
Chelsea’s title hopes are hanging by a thread after our 2-1 loss to Wolves on Wednesday night. The defeat at Wolves has left Maurizio Sarri’s side 10 points behind the league leaders Manchester City.
Saturday’s game against Manchester City is a must win for Chelsea. Lose that and the Blues, who now sit fourth, will trail City by 13 points.
“It’s too early to talk about it, obviously. If we lose we are going to be 13 points from the top and that’s a lot of points but we have to think, prepare for the game well and not pay attention to the table at the moment,” Alonso said.
“It’s the perfect opportunity to come back. It will be a great game for sure, everyone will be very motivated to play.
“We are very disappointed after the defeat but it’s back to work and we will work harder and start playing better as a team.”
Ahead of the game against City on Saturday, Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri insists Manchester City are in a class of their own.
Sarri said: “As I said before, City are in another category. They are not in our category. We have to play and to fight to be in the top four I think.
“The result is very difficult for this. In every match you have to gain points. I lost Serie A with 91 points, so I know every match you have to gain points.”
