Barcelona have made contact with Chelsea over the potential signing of Andreas Christensen, according to Metro UK.
According to the report, Barcelona only want Christensen on loan to cover for the injured Samuel Umtiti.
Christensen has only played once in the Premier League this season, the 2-1 loss at Wolves, and while he has started all six Europa League games, the Denmark international wants more regular football.
The report also claims Chelsea aren’t keen on a potential loan deal for Christensen and would prefer a permanent transfer, something of which Barcelona are now said to be considering.
Barcelona boss Ernesto Valverde has now responded to speculation linking Barcelona with Christensen by insisting Barcelona are not in the market for a centre-back.
“We want four centre-backs who can play,” he said.
“Umtiti could recover and that would be great news for us and would mean that we would have four centre-backs for the rest of the season, although three are left-footed.
“We will know more about what happens with him in a little while, but we are Barcelona and want to have a team who can respond.
“As I said, we’ll see what happens but I’m happy to manage with what I have.”
Christensen is under contract with Chelsea until 2022.
