Ahead of the January transfer window, Chelsea are set to make a move for Bournemouth striker Callum Wilson with the Blues confident of completing a move for the 26-year-old and happy to meet Bournemouth’s £30million asking price.
According to Sky Sports reporter Adam Bate, Wilson is not the right man because he won’t transform the Chelsea’s attack.
“I like Callum Wilson but I’m a bit surprised they’re after a striker really. I don’t think it’s easy to get players better than Olivier Giroud or Alvaro Morata,” Bate said, according to Daily Express.
“For all Morata’s faults, you’d still say he’s one of the top 20 strikers in the world. Giroud has just won the World Cup with France as the No.9.
“They are playing Eden Hazard as a false No.9 so they do have options there and I think in January it’s pretty difficult to sign someone who is obviously going to be better than that.
“I’m not so sure Callum Wilson will transform that Chelsea forward line myself.”
Chelsea assistant manager Gianfranco Zola confirmed Chelsea’s interest in the striker on Tuesday.
“I’m sure that there are a lot of players that are linked with us,” Zola said.
“Certainly Callum Wilson is doing very well for his club and he is of interest, not just for us, but for many.”
