According to a report on Daily Mail, Chelsea have rejected a bid of £13.5 million from Bayern Munich for 18-year-old winger Callum Hudson-Odoi.
The 18-year-old’s contract will expire at the end of next season and he is yet to sign a new contract as he want assurances of playing time at the club.
Bayern Munich have now reportedly come back with a second bid in excess of £20 million for the youngster as the German club see the 18-year-old as the successor to Arjen Robben, according to Sky Sports.
Hudson-Odoi has only started in the Community Shield and twice in the Europa League but is yet to start a Premier League game under Maurizio Sarri. His only appearance in the Premier League this season was as a first half substitute for Pedro against Watford on Boxing Day.
He is reportedly interested in following the likes of Jadon Sancho and Reiss Nelson to the Bundesliga after seeing both players thrive in the Bundesliga.
Sancho, who won the U17 World Cup with Hudson-Odoi, left Manchester City to join Dortmund and has impressed in the Bundesliga while also making his senior England debut. Arsenal’s Reiss Nelson is also thriving on loan at Hoffenheim.
The arrival of Christian Pulisic from Borussia Dortmund next summer is also likely to limit the chances of Hudson-Odoi in the first team.
According to Sky Sports, Bayern Munich have made Hudson-Odoi their number one target in the January transfer window.
Sky Sports claim Chelsea are willing to let Hudson-Odoi leave Stamford Bridge if Bayern Munich are willing to pay £22.5 million for the 18-year-old. Personal terms between Bayern Munich and Hudson-Odoi are yet to be discussed but Sky Sports claim that isn’t expected to be a problem for Bayern Munich, who are hoping Chelsea accept their latest bid.
Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund are also interested in Hudson-Odoi and it was reportedly claimed they asked Chelsea to include the 18-year-old in any deal to sign Christian Pulisic from Dortmund but Chelsea have now finally reached an agreement with Dortmund for Pulisic without including Hudson-Odoi.
Hudson-Odoi is highly regarded in the club’s academy and he is viewed as one of the finest talents the Chelsea academy have produced in recent seasons.
Jamie Redknapp has warned Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri that the club could lose Hudson-Odoi if the youngster isn’t given more game time. Redknapp described Hudson-Odoi as the next superstar.
“This kid is the next superstar,” Redknapp told Daily Mail early this month.
“He is full of confidence, loves to run at defenders and capped a brilliant display against PAOK with his first senior goal.
“He also took the time last week to meet Chelsea’s Under 10s.
“Maurizio Sarri simply has to find a way to give him more minutes.
“Jadon Sancho has set a precedent.
“Young players are willing to move abroad to play and Chelsea risk losing someone special.”
Hudson-Odoi’s departure will come as a huge blow to Chelsea fans, as many had hoped he would break into the starting XI this season after his impressive performances during pre-season.
