Barcelona have approached Chelsea about the possibility of signing Andreas Christensen on loan next month, according to Standard Sport.
Barcelona want cover with Samuel Umtiti and Thomas Vermaelen out injured and have asked the Blues about taking the defender for the rest of the season in view of buying him next summer.
Chelsea are not willing to part company with Christensen and have rejected the approach from Barcelona to take the defender on loan in January.
The 22-year-old defender has long been on Barcelona’s radar, having been approached by representatives from the Spanish club prior to his loan move to Borussia Monchengladbach.
Christensen wants more game time at Chelsea, having started just one Premier League game this season and playing all of Chelsea’s matches in the Carabao Cup and Europa League. He was a regular under Antonio Conte last season.
Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri thinks highly of the defender even though he prefers the centre-back pairing of David Luiz and Antonio Rudiger and wants him to remain at Chelsea and fight for a place.
Christensen agreed a new contract with Chelsea at the beginning of the year that runs until 2022 and Chelsea are determined to ignore all bids for Christensen.
Meanwhile, Gary Cahill has asked to leave in January with Fulham, West Ham and Monaco interested and is expected to get his wish, while Danny Drinkwater and Victor Moses will be sold.
