Ahead of Chelsea’s visit to Watford on Boxing Day, Chelsea defender Andreas Christensen has been ruled out from making the squad with the Denmark international out with a hamstring injury.
According to reports, Christensen may not make an appearance for Chelsea this year due to the injury with the defender expected to be fit next month.
Chelsea striker Alvaro Morata, who has been out injured since the 2-2 Europa League draw with Vidi, is back to full fitness and could make the 18-man squad for the game against Watford.
Morata trained with the rest of his teammates on Friday.
Meanwhile Chelsea legend Michael Essien believes Christensen could leave for Barcelona with the defender finding it difficult to get into the first team under Maurizio Sarri.
Sarri prefers the centre-back pairing of Antonio Rudiger and David Luiz and Essien believes it’s normal for Christensen to get frustrated due to his lack of game time in the Premier League.
“Every player wants to play,” Essien said this week. “Chelsea isn’t an easy place to come and the competition is very fierce.
“At the end of the day, all the players work but it’s the manager who will pick who he wants to play.
“When you’re not playing you get frustrated and you want to look elsewhere.”
