Chelsea have a tendency of sacking managers who do not deliver instant success but Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri has used the example of Pep Guardiola’s first season in England to explain why he needs time at Chelsea.
Manchester City finished third in the league in Guardiola’s first season in charge, winning no trophies. Sarri believes football would have been deprived of one of the world’s best teams if City had dismissed Guardiola after his first season in charge.
When asked if he would be given time at Chelsea, Sarri said: “I don’t know.
“You have to ask the club. I don’t know.
“What happens if Guardiola had no time in City? Maybe the best team in the world wasn’t City in the last year.
“It’s not my problem. My problem is to improve my players, to solve the situation, to solve problems, to try to gain a lot of points. Then there is the club that will decide what is better for them.
“The Premier League is a fantastic championship, but it’s very difficult. Difficult because every match is difficult. Every match, if you are able to win, is very expensive from the mental and physical point of view.
“You have to play every three days. You have no time to work or improve the team, so it’s really a very difficult situation.”
