Chelsea signed N’Golo Kante from Leicester City following his remarkable efforts during the Foxes’ 2015-16 Premier League-winning season.
Kante joined the Blues for a fee of £32 million in the summer of 2016, and has been a key player for Chelsea ever since, and was the best player in the team as Chelsea went on to win the Premier League in his first season at the club.
Kante is in his third season at the club, and the Frenchman has been hailed as the best defensive midfielder in the world.
Blues legend Didier Drogba has revealed that he advised the club to sign the energetic midfielder and is happy that the board heeded to his advice.
“I’m very proud of him,” said Drogba. “I’m glad he chose Chelsea and the club listened to my advice, that they chose him. I’m glad I did not make a mistake.
“I told them that we should not miss him. When? I told them when he started at Leicester.”
Kante’s position has come under dispute this season with Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri playing him in an advanced midfield role. However, Kante was excellent in that position during the weekend as Chelsea defeated Manchester City 2-0 at home, with Kante scoring the opening goal.
Kevin Campbell has praised Maurizio Sarri’s decision to move N’Golo Kante’s position after Kante’s performance against Manchester City.
“Being on the right of Jorginho I think actually offers great balance to Chelsea,” Campbell said on Sky Sports.
“He’s doubled his goal tally, which is another tick in the right box.
“But look at the work he’s doing, he’s protecting Azpilicueta as well as a right-back.
“He will always get back and look at the touches he has had in and around the box.
“For me, Sarri’s used his brain a little bit and gone about this the smart way and thought ‘how can I get maximum output from Kante?’.
“Maybe he’s not as good on the ball as Jorginho.
“But you can get other bits from him that probably other people haven’t seen.”
