Monaco boss Thierry Henry reportedly wants to sign Chelsea’s pass master Cesc Fabregas in January according to French media outlet L’Equipe.
Henry played together with Fabregas at Arsenal and Barcelona and the Monaco manager hopes his relationship with Fabregas could persuade him to join the struggling Ligue 1 side.
The 31-year-old has started just one Premier League game this season for Chelsea but he has featured regularly for Chelsea in the Europa League and Carabao Cup.
Fabregas wants more playing time in the Premier League but is only certain to see action in cup competitions, with Maurizio Sarri preferring summer signing Jorginho in the Blues deep-lying midfield role.
Monaco are 19th in the French league and are desperate for midfield reinforcements after selling Fabinho, Joao Moutinho, Thomas Lemar and Tiemoue Bakayoko over the last two summer transfer windows.
Fabregas has just six months left on his Chelsea contract, although Sarri has urged the board to offer the Spaniard a new contract.
Henry might find it really difficult convincing Fabregas to leave Chelsea — who are chasing silverware in four competitions at this stage — for Monaco who sit in 19th place in Ligue 1.
AC Milan are also interested in signing Fabregas but UEFA’s latest financial warning have cooled their interest.
