Manchester City’s unbeaten run in the Premier League came to an end as Chelsea defeated them 2-0 at Stamford Bridge on Saturday evening.
Despite City dominating the game, N’Golo Kante gave Chelsea the lead just before half-time, roofing the net from an Eden Hazard assist.
The Blues started the second-half the better side and secured an important win with 12 minutes remaining as David Luiz headed home from a corner.
The Chelsea team produced a stunning performance to win the game, but former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy reserved special praise for Cesar Azpilicueta and Jorginho after Chelsea’s significant victory over Manchester City.
“Chelsea’s win was a triumph of togetherness and organisation as much as attacking flair,” Murphy told the Daily Mail.
“Cesar Azpilicueta was unbelievable and Jorginho had a great game having been criticised during the defeat by Spurs, including by myself.
“Manchester City’s first defeat of the season will give Liverpool and everyone else hope that they’re not invincible.
“They’ve been blowing away teams with such regularity this season it’s natural for the players lining up against them to go in with a negative mindset.
“Now they’ll be thinking they might have a chance particularly if City are without Kevin De Bruyne, Sergio Aguero, Benjamin Mendy and David Silva all at the same time.”
