Chelsea full back Cesar Azpilicueta signed a new Chelsea contract today until 2022, with the contract worth £150,000 weekly.
Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri admits he’s happy Azpilicueta has signed a new contract because he is a very important player in the team.
Asked if he was happy with Azpilicueta’s new deal, Sarri said: “Azpilicueta is important for the staff, for the coach, for the team-mates.
“It’s very important for this club, I think. I’m very happy with the new contract for him, and for the club.”
Azpilicueta, who has won five major trophies, hopes to win even more titles with Chelsea. He joined from Marseille for just £7million in 2012.
Azpilicueta said: “I couldn’t imagine [I’d be here this long] when I came here in 2012. Hopefully the best is yet to come. I’m really pleased and happy here.
“There were a couple of good moments: obviously when we won the title. The target is to win trophies, and we have been the most successful team in England in the last couple of years.”
The 29-year-old becomes the sixth Chelsea player to agree a new deal this year, with N’Golo Kante, Marcos Alonso, Pedro, Andreas Christensen and Ethan Ampadu.
