Chelsea lost 1-0 at Stamford Bridge to Leicester City on Saturday, Maurizio Sarri’s first loss at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea next face a tough Boxing Day trip away to Watford, who beat West Ham 2-0 on Saturday.

Sarri insists it’s important to play immediately after the loss to Leicester as it gives the players the chance to show a reaction to the defeat to Leicester.

“It’s important to play again in four days, maybe positive, maybe negative, it depends on our reaction after the match,” Sarri said after the loss to Leicester on Saturday.

“In the match we had a bad reaction, now it depends on the reaction in the next three days, I think it’s important to play immediately.”

The loss to Leicester was Chelsea’s third of the season and it leaves Chelsea trailing Premier League leaders Liverpool by 11 points but, crucially, only sitting above fifth-placed Arsenal on goal difference.

Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri believes it is impossible for Chelsea to fight for the Premier League title this season.

“As we said from the beginning of the season, we knew very well that, for us, this season it was impossible for us to fight for the Premier League,” Sarri added.

“So it’s not important Liverpool, at the moment. For us, it’s very important to stay close to the top four. As we said starting from July.”
