Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri wants to bring Gonzalo Higuain to Stamford Bridge in January.
Higuain is currently on loan at AC Milan from Juventus and according to reports, Chelsea are proposing swapping Alvaro Morata for Higuain.
According to Sport Mediaset, the two clubs have reached an agreement to swap Morata for Higuain when the transfer window reopens in January. The report claims that the two sides are ‘perfecting the final details’ of an exchange which is now described as inevitable, with just the nature of the swap still to be decided.
Higuain is reportedly said to be keen on making the switch to Stamford Bridge and reuniting with his former boss Maurizio Sarri, whom he reached a career high of 36 goals during their time at Napoli.
Danny Murphy has now advised Sarri to end his pursuit of Higuain and use Olivier Giroud instead.
The France striker was an unused substitute during Chelsea’s 2-1 Boxing Day win over Watford but Murphy believes Giroud deserves a better run of games and feels that the Frenchman is the best to unlock more goals from Eden Hazard.
“I like Giroud,” said Murphy.
“I’d play him. He’s a World Cup winner.
“Eden Hazard loves playing with him. He’s reliable.”
With Sarri playing Hazard as a false nine in recent games, game time for Giroud and Morata could become limited.
Hazard, who has courted interest from Real Madrid, celebrated his 100th and 101st goals for Chelsea after scoring brace in the win at Vicarage Road.
Hazard played down talk of leaving Stamford Bridge as he made his intentions clear that he wants to become a Chelsea legend.
Speaking to Sky Sports following the win against Watford, Hazard said: “(The 101 goals) mean a lot especially because we won today.
“One-hundred-and-one goals with this amazing club is something I will never forget!
“Now I think me, the fans and players want more. I want to score more goals for the club and want to be a legend like (Frank) Lampard, (Didier) Drogba and try to be my best.
“I can even play at centre back. My target is to score goals and to try and win the game, as a winger or a striker. I missed a couple of chances today, especially in the first half, but I scored two so it’s important to keep focus.
“We showed great character against Man City after defeat by Wolves, and today we did the same thing after a defeat to Leicester.
“When we fight together we are a top team.”
