Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri needs to sign a striker who will upset defenders in the January transfer window, according to former Chelsea defender Gary Chivers.
Eden Hazard has been deployed as a false nine in recent games due to the inconsistent forms of Chelsea strikers Alvaro Morata and Olivier Giroud.
“[They require] someone who needs to upset people. Definitely, they need to bring someone in and that’s probably what they’re doing,” Chivers told Love Sport Radio, according to Daily Express.
“It wouldn’t surprise me in the January transfer window if they go out and spend massive to get someone. Who’s like Diego Costa when he first came over? No-one.
“He was angry all the time, but do you know what, every single defender he played against didn’t want to play against him. You could see that from the off.”
Chivers believes Hazard is the best option for Chelsea in the number 9 position due to the inconsistent forms of Morata and Giroud.
“Hazard comes a little bit deeper, picks the ball up in the midfield and then he just runs at the back four,” Chivers added.
“Every time he gets it, he gets free rein to express himself, comes deep, picks the ball up and when he turns and has a go at you, he’s incredible running at defenders.”
