Chelsea are attempting to beat Manchester City and Juventus to the signing of 16-year-old Barcelona starlet Ilaix Moriba, who has been described as the new ‘Paul Pogba’, according to Spanish newspaper Sport.
According to Sport, the player’s agent met with Chelsea last week and that talks went well after director Marina Granovskaia was given permission to go ‘all out’ in order to bring the youngster to Stamford Bridge.
Barcelona want to keep the player after he progressed through the club’s La Masia academy and have offered him a higher contract than what they normally offer players his age but Chelsea have reportedly offered the 16-year-old talented midfielder a better deal – financially and sporting – than Barcelona, Manchester City and Juventus.
Serie A side Juventus and Premier League rivals Manchester City are also interested in the 16-year-old and have offered contracts to the youngster but Chelsea are leading the race for his signature.
Just like Pogba, Moriba have Guinean roots and the midfielder only turned 16 on Saturday. It is also claimed the Premier League would suit the central midfielder given his qualities.
Moriba was expected to make a decision on his future on Monday but that has now been delayed due to Chelsea’s contract offer to the young central midfielder.
Sport claim Moriba does not want to rush his decision as he weighs up elements of all four contracts offered to him.
Moriba has been a regular in Barcelona’s UEFA Youth League team but he is currently not training with Barcelona’s U19 team until his future is resolved.
While Chelsea are trying to secure the signing of one of the most promising young midfielders in Europe, Bayern Munich are keen on signing our academy graduate Callum Hudson-Odoi.
Bayern have submitted four bids for the young winger, the latest a £35million bid for the 18-year-old.
Chelsea are keen on keeping Hudson-Odoi at the club and have offered him a £70,000 a week contract to remain at the club but Bayern aren’t relenting on their pursuit of their 18-year-old with reports claiming Bayern have offered Hudson-Odoi £85,000 per week to dump Chelsea for Bayern Munich.
Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri recently revealed Hudson-Odoi has improved a lot over the last two months.
Sarri said: “I don’t want to talk with him about something I cannot resolve. I cannot solve it.
“I am very happy with him. In my opinion, he is improving. So, on the pitch, we are really very happy with him.
“He has improved a lot in the last two months.”
