Bayern Munich have made four bids for Chelsea 18-year-old winger Callum Hudson-Odoi, with the latest bid said to be around £35 million.

Bayern Munich are determined to sign the youngster as they want him to replace Arjen Robben, who is set to leave the club at the end of the season.

Chelsea development squad manager Joe Edwards wants Hudson-Odoi to make an impact at Stamford Bridge having come through the club’s academy.

Edwards played a key role in the progress of Hudson-Odoi.

“As someone from our academy I would obviously love him to stay and the dream for all of us at the academy is to see our boys playing in the first team,” Edwards said.

“It’s not easy getting in the first team at clubs of this size and I think it is, at the moment, all credit to Callum with so much going on around him at such a young age to be going out on the pitch and putting in the performances.

“All credit to him, he has shown what he is capable of, shown why he is getting this attention and hopefully he signs his contract and does it many more times for Chelsea.”

Edwards also believes it is a compliment to the quality of players emerging from Chelsea’s academy that a club such as Bayern Munich are prepared to pay £35 million to sign Hudson-Odoi.

“It is [a compliment] and I don’t think anyone would be surprised,” Edwards said. “Everyone has known for a few years we have got a fantastic crop of players, but as I said the goal is for them to be playing for Chelsea.

“Hopefully that’s how this one will end up.”

Hudson-Odoi has had a contract offer from the club but is yet to sign it due to concerns over playing time at Chelsea. The 18-year-old has just 18 months left in his contract and Chelsea might have to let him leave if he continues to stall on signing a new deal.

Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri insists the youngster is ready to play more for Chelsea and started him in the semifinal first-leg 1-0 loss to Tottenham on Tuesday. It was his second consecutive start for Chelsea.

Former Chelsea striker Chris Sutton has said Hudson-Odoi’s performance against Spurs shows why Bayern are after him.

“For a great team like Bayern Munich to be willing to pay £35m for Callum Hudson-Odoi tells us what a talent he is,” Sutton wrote in his Daily Mail column.

“His performance against Tottenham, albeit in defeat, told us that, too.

“What impresses me most is that he doesn’t show any fear.

“He has that swagger about him, despite being only 18 years old. He knows when to release the ball, too.

“He is young and can improve but he is an excellent prospect. He looked Chelsea’s biggest threat.

“The issue for Maurizio Sarri is that a manager is there to win games and he has players at his disposal such as Pedro and Willian.

“But it is about time Chelsea gave their best youngsters a chance and it was a big show of faith by Sarri to start Hudson-Odoi at Wembley.”
