18-year-old Callum Hudson-Odoi and Chelsea star Eden Hazard are two fans favourites well adored by the Chelsea faithful, but one or even both of them might leave the club this summer as their contracts wind up in 2020.

Hudson-Odoi scored a brilliant goal against Sheffield Wednesday in the FA Cup fourth round tie which Chelsea won 3-0. The 18-year-old showed quick feet to turn and daze left-back Morgan Fox before hitting a well-struck shot.

Former Chelsea striker Tony Cascarino has hailed Hudson-Odoi and believes the 18-year-old has similar skills to that of Hazard.

“Callum Hudson-Odoi is going to be a star, whichever club he moves to,” he wrote in The Times.

“He is similar to Eden Hazard in the way that he can beat players from a standing start, with his explosive pace and a quick movement of his feet to send a defender the wrong way.

“He is technically gifted and he showed that in his goal for Chelsea against Sheffield Wednesday yesterday.

“Chelsea won the FA Youth Cup five times between 2014 and 2018 but there is no legacy from that, no outstanding class from any of those year groups.

“It’s a shame and it’s no surprise that players such as Hudson-Odoi are looking elsewhere for first-team chances.”

With just 18 months left on his contract, Chelsea are trying to convince Hudson-Odoi sign a new contract, with the teenager trying to force his way out by handing a transfer request.

After his goal in the 64th minute, Chelsea fans began to sing “we want you to stay”, and Gianfranco Zola said after: “We want him to stay as well, we were singing too. He has a contract. We believe in what he can do for this team.

“I don’t think there are many 18-year-old players around Europe that are playing as much as him in a big team.”
