Chelsea and Tottenham will meet in the semifinals of the Carabao Cup, with Spurs hosting the first leg at Wembley tonight.
The fixture for the second leg has now been announced and will take place on Thursday 24 January at Stamford Bridge. The match will kick off at 7.45pm UK time.
Blues boss Maurizio Sarri will be wary of Tottenham’s threat after Spurs whipped the Blues convincingly 3-1 at Wembley back in November.
Speaking ahead of tonight’s fixture, Sarri admitted that the semifinal clash at Wembley tonight will be different and that he expects a good showing from the team although there are some issues he still has to fix.
“The level of determination now is good,” continued Sarri. “But we still have to solve some problems.
“Sometimes during matches we have not had the right reaction to difficulties and negative situations. In the last match
[against Nottingham Forest]
we were not able to have the right reaction to a positive situation! After our second goal we conceded four shots on goal in two minutes. We need to learn we cannot lower our application in the defensive phase.”
The Chelsea manager also admitted that winning the cup will be a difficult one, with Manchester City still available in the competition.
He said: “It is very difficult. The level of the opponent is very high. We have had to play against Liverpool. Now we have to play against Tottenham, and in an eventual final it would probably be against Manchester City.
“It’s like playing in the Champions League, but in the League Cup.”
