Chelsea defender David Luiz is close to agreeing a one-year contract extension at the club, according to Goal.
The Brazilian’s current deal expires at the end of the season and Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri had insisted he wants the Brazilian to remain at Chelsea.
Kia Joorabchian, Luiz’s agent, recently revealed he was trying to work out a deal for Luiz to extend his Chelsea contract and it seems that has now been achieved.
Joorabchian told The Sun earlier this month: “Contrary to some reports we are in a very amicable situation with Chelsea.
“We are trying to work out a deal for David Luiz because he wants to stay, the manager wants him to stay and so does the club.
“I’m sure something will be worked out.”
According to Goal, the representatives of Luiz have been in London having talks with Chelsea over a new contract for the 31-year-old Brazilian defender and discussions over a new contract have been positive.
Luiz is an important player for Sarri and has made 28 appearances for Chelsea across all competitions this season.
The 31-year-old defender endured a tough time towards the end of Antonio Conte’s spell at Chelsea and it was believed he would leave the club at the end of last season but Sarri has restored him back into the starting XI this season.
Luiz have won a Premier League title, two FA Cups, one Europa League and one Champions League trophy and would be hoping to win more titles with the Blues as he closes in on extending his stay at Stamford Bridge.
