Chelsea have already raided the Bundesliga this month by signing Borussia Dortmund star Christian Pulisic, although the 21-year-old will move to Stamford Bridge at the end of the season.
And now, the agent of Leon Bailey has confirmed that Chelsea are still interested in the Jamaican.
Craig Butler, Bailey’s agent and stepfather, has claimed Chelsea are among the clubs that have enquired about the 21-year-old after a frustrating start to the season, having started just eight of his 16 league appearances this season.
The Jamaican could have joined Chelsea during the summer, but he opted to remain in Germany despite heavy interest from the Blues.
Butler told SportBild: “I am very happy that this change has come about. Leon did not develop under Heiko Herrlich.
“For Leon it is very important that he enjoys football, he lives alone in Germany, the family is in Jamaica, and if Leon does not have fun, it kills him.
Top clubs have come forward, Real and Atletico Madrid, Chelsea, Roma, and in recent months they have been surprised that Leon plays so seldom, wondering why a top league player like him is suddenly sitting on the bench.”
Leverkusen sacked Heiko Herrlich last month with the club ninth in the Bundesliga table, and Bailey is hopeful his situation will improve under new manager, Peter Bosz.
“I know all about his playing style from when he was in charge of Ajax,” Bailey said.
“I like this style of play. It’s a more attacking game. I really like this style of football.”
